Stream Oz - Broken Kingdom live on Periscope from your iPhone 7

As you may already know,  I got myself a brand new iPhone, the iPhone 7 Black.

I have downloaded the newest game called Oz: Broken Kingdom.  It's a nice RPGish game where you are fighting your way out in the land of Oz.

After a few minutes, I saw in the top right corner a small icon named "Rec"...  A bit curious, I checked it out to discover that I could record my game into a local video file or stream it directly to... Periscope.

Actually, it seems to be able to stream to other services also, I have tested Twitch or Youtube yet.

Anyway, I've made a few tests on my Twitter/Periscope account and it does work... once in a while.  It seems unstable and that could be an issue with my WIFI setup having some issues.  But I'm pretty sure that things will work better with a few updates.

Nevertheless, when you activate the recording/streaming, iOS will ask your permission to capture the screen, the microphone and camera (if selected).  So it seems that iOS 10 does bring a native streaming functionality that is build in...

Have you found another game that could use that feature from iOS 10?

What about my iPhone 7 after 2 days...

I was one of the lucky one to get my hands on a new iPhone 7 last Friday.  When I say lucky, I mean that only two devices were shipped to my local Rogers reseller and I was chosen for one of them.

I took the time to explore the new toy as I already had an iPhone 6.  Basically, they look the same with a few differences...

The buttons are a bit smaller on each side and the finish is as always very smooth.  They both weight the same and have the same size.  The only difference I could notice was the camera that is not exactly that the same place as the iPhone 6.  They are so alike that the iPhone 7 does fit (almost) perfectly in the iPhone 6 case.  I had to be creative and carve the camera hole to fit the iPhone 7.

Apple should remove some stock apps

I do enjoy the latest version of iOS released this week, iOS 10.  The upgrade process went flawlessly on my iPad 4 and on my iPhone 6.

While doing some cleanup in old apps I had on my iPad, I was shocked to discover that Photo Booth was still there, hidden in one of the folders...  Some stock apps should be removed from iOS, at least, merged into other apps or functionalities...

Seriously, who has even ever used this app.  With today's better alternative like Snapchat or Instagram, there is really no need to maintain this app on iOS.

iBook

I do like to read, but not on the iPad or iPhone.  I much prefer use my Kobo Glo device as it does a much better job and prevents my eyes from itching.  This app should be downloadable, like Pages or iMovie.

Podcasts

Listening to podcasts is not really my thing.  The feature itself should be integrated into iTunes and the Music app as a sub-section instead, making audio listening merged into a single place.  The same functionality should be also integrating into the Videos for video podcasts.  Basically, download from iTunes and listen in Music, watch in Videos...

Ubuntu and iPhone: Manage your music

If you are using Ubuntu on your computer, you're a bit out of luck for handling music on your iPhone.  The main issue is that the iPhone is relying on iTunes to handle media files and we all know that iTunes only runs on Macs and Windows computer.

Don't worry, there is a solution and that solution is called VLC.  

What you need to do is install VLC on your iPhone (or any other iDevices) from the Apple Store.  The app is free and does handle music and videos.

Once installed, launch VLC on your iPhone and look to the left, you can enable file sharing via WIFI to add media files...

 

Then simply open your browser on your Ubuntu computer and browse to the indicated URL as shown in VLC on your iPhone...  Once you see the VLC page in your browser, simple add music (or movies) to the VLC database.

Files can be manage directly from the VLC app if you want to remove them.  Since VLC is already a beautiful app and does actually play many formats, you can just ditch the stock music app and rely completely on VLC for your music listening on your iPhone.

Of course, this tip also works on any computer able to support a browser.  It probably works with Android devices as they are able to browse for any files.

 

 

Learn programming with Human Resource Machine

Yesterday, I started playing a really neat game on my iPad called Human Resource Machine.

It's not just another puzzle game as we are used to find on the iOS stores.  This game does involve a lot of logic and a new notions of software programming.

The story gos like this: You are a new employee in a big corporation and you are asked to take documents from the "Inbox" and put them in the "Outbox" using pre-defined actions (commands).

The first few levels are quite easy but as you progress, you'll encounter some basic programming challenge like making a modulo calculation and event doing a sorted bubble algorithm.

The game is really enjoyable and anyone can play.  If you are into software programming, the levels will put your knowledge to the test.

For kids, this is a great way to explain what is a computer program and they can explore and learn some basic algorithm by themselves.
